Kili and the Serengeti

I am editing photos for my Web Site, which will be online sooner than later. I really like these two, but they aren't compelling enough to fit inside my portfolio. Zerby suggested that if I like the image so much, I should sell it as a print. Perhaps I will.

The top is of the Plains of Kilimanjaro, the bottom is the sunrise on the Serengeti.

Hello Summer

Softball at Van Cleve Park. It was a practice session for a semi-pickup team from Fridley.

I am creating a video-documentary of Van Cleve shooting only still images for my media arts class. This was one of the shots.

I had to remove some of the leaves from the fence to get this non-obscured angle.

Eye Patches for Patty

My cousin Patty has to wear an eye patch every day for the next three months. Yesterday, during my cousin-to-be's wedding shower, we decorated the patches for Patty.

The eye patches I decorated feature international monuments, incl: Stone Henge, The Great Wall of China, and the Eiffel Tower.

I am going to start including screen captures of my contact sheets. I find it to be incredibly fascinating to see other photographer's raw takes, and I want to create more transparency in my work.

Contact Sheet.

Runner Up College Photography of the Year

This weekend was the Minnesota News Photographer Association's annual conference + Photographer of the Year 2008 judging. I was named runner up College Photographer of the Year. My friend Steve was given the top spot, and his work went on to dominate in the professional division. (and by dominate, I mean did quite well.)

I am happy that I got that title, but my favorite part of the competition was being able to hear photographers unbiasedly talking about my photos, and offering solutions of how I can improve.

You should check out all the winning images HERE.

In the college division, I also won second place and an honorable mention in the features category, first place and an honorable mention in the portrait category, and second place for my picture story. (scroll down to the college winners' list to checkout Minnesota Daily raking in the wins).

Roommates

My roommates I and I went bowling on Thursday night. I am still awful at the sport, but atleast it wasn't my worst game ever.
