Rushford-Peterson Basketball

I followed Rushford-Peterson's basketball team during the high school 1A tournament. They were the underdogs, but they won their first game against Springfield. See more here and here.

A visitor from Lebanon

My brother's girlfriend's father is in town visiting from Lebanon for the first time since Nick and Saydi have been dating. Our (almost) complete families met up for the first time yesterday. We all got a long famously.

Shuttle Cock // Beijing

Shuttle Cock or Jianzi is a traditional game of hacky sack in China. It is most commonly played by the retired communities. I'll admit, that coming from a culture where hacky sack is only played by rebellious youth, it was very unusual to see older Beijingers playing the game.

Dance Party at the Temple of Heaven

There was a XinJiang dance party in the Temple of Heaven Gardens, Beijing. I hope I will always be as happy as the granny (wearing a clip-on mustache) is in the bottom photograph.

Speed Graphic

This is the Speed Graphic camera that my grandfather used during his career as a commercial photographer. My cousin Sophia is writing a school report about it, and asked me to take its portrait.
Also, I now have my own new camera, a D300s, and I am no longer in China.

Camera Eulogy

My D200 and 24mm f/2.8 are gone. They were stolen out of my backpack at the Shenzhen train station three nights ago. It is pretty awful to be camera-less, but at least my equipment was very well used before it was taken away. Insurance will cover getting brand-new replacements (minus a $500 deductible), but I will miss my D200.

This is the first photograph taken with my camera, in Syntagma Square, Athens, Greece.
And this is the last photo (downloaded) from my camera, in Beijing, China, taken for a story about Chinese drinking games on November 26th.
I received my D200 in Athens on June 11th, 2007, and have had it with me for the last 2.5 years, traveling across four continents and shooting many, many assignments. Thank you, dear camera.
As for good news, I think I will upgrade to a D700.

I started taking photos, and they pretty much ignored me, save for a few nods and smiles.

Scorpions for Dinner

My friends and I went to Wangfujing Snack Market last night. It's great, especially if you enjoy snacking on things like these:


We all tried starfish, worms, Crickets and scorpions. None of them tasted too bad. The scorpions were best, as they tasted like popcorn.
